Kathy and I had a quick weekend getaway in the lush scenery of Hocking Hills. It was a quick 2 day-1 night trip, but it was absolutely perfect. Our itinerary included massages, amazing food at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, Segway tours, and zip-lining with Hocking Hills Canopy Tours.
Day 1:
After checking in at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, we were greeted by innkeeper Ellen Grinsfelder. As we toured the cottages and cabins, Ellen gave us a quick history on how her mother’s bed & breakfast vision came to life.
The cottages would be perfect for two with its small charming size. Every cottage had its own whirlpool tub with a private viewing deck. For more amenities like a full kitchen or space for more people, cabins would be the perfect choice.
Just down a walkable pathway was a secluded log cabin which housed the spa. Services ranged from traditional massages to craniosacral therapy using osteopathic techniques. My therapist Randy used a mix of reflexology and Thai yoga massages, which really helped me de-stress and stretch out. The patio room overlooked the forest’s gorgeous foliage. So if you’re booking a couples massage, I would highly recommend the patio if possible!
I had high praises for the inn’s restaurant Kindred Spirits from my last visit, so I was excited for Kathy to try it! Casual Friday at the Kindred Spirits included a seasonal Bistro menu, happy hour all night, and live music. We ordered off the Bistro menu and both got crab cakes… two words: loaded & amazing. The baguette was toasted to perfection – slightly crispy on the edges but not overdone.
We ended the evening with a lemon-berry cheesecake and berry cobbler.
Day 2
Breakfast was also included for all guests at the inn. The breakfast menu included their housemade granola & fruit bar along with savory dishes and sides, which change each season. We finished our coffees and were energized for the rest of our adrenaline packed day!
Next on the agenda: an off-road Segway tour and the X-tour with Hocking Hills Zipline Canopy Tour.
After a quick crash course on how to ride a Segway, I was off and away at a full speed of 12 mph. Our guides Jared and Alec, had great positive attitudes and shared some pretty cool facts about the region… for example: there really are no caves at Old Man’s Cave. Who knew!
We continued our adventure into the 3 hour X-tour, which consisted of 11 zips between a hybrid of trees and towers. Our guides Elijah and Shad were professional, fun, and very accommodating. They taught us the basics to zip lining with a practice run through for each individual. Kathy actually has a fear of heights but with clear instructions and helpful advice, she enjoyed every last zip!
Hocking Hills Canopy Tours provides a variety of fun! They also have a zip course just for kids and different zip-lining tours. I’m definitely coming back for their moonshine tour which happens during full moons… how cool would that be?! Overall Kathy and I enjoyed the staff’s punctuality and professionalism and can’t wait to come back.
Thank you to Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls for your hospitality and Hocking Hills Canopy Tours for the adventure!
